Discover Your Best Colors: Women Who Brunch - Color Analysis Event Recap with Speaker Dana Hammond, Certified Color Analysis Expert

On May 10th, the Cozy Corner Café was filled with the warmth of good food, vibrant conversation, and a touch of style magic as Women Who Brunch hosted a special Color Analysis Brunch with certified color analysis expert Dana Hammond of Colorful Style by Dana.

Attendees sipped coffee, enjoyed brunch bites, and dove into the fascinating world of color theory as Dana shared how discovering your ideal color palette can be a game-changer for both style and self-confidence. One of her standout points? It takes just seven seconds to make a first impression—and the colors you wear can have a huge impact on how you're perceived.

Dana explained how color analysis not only helps you look your best but also saves you time and money, helping you avoid clothing that doesn't suit your natural tones and build a more cohesive wardrobe. She also emphasized how wearing the right shades can boost your confidence and make getting dressed easier and more enjoyable.

To bring the experience to life, Dana conducted live draping demonstrations with two attendees, showing how different colors enhance or dull features depending on a person’s skin tone, eye color, and hair color. The transformation was eye-opening, and we loved seeing the difference the right color could make.

✨ Key Tips & Takeaways About Color Analysis

🎯 1. Make Strong First Impressions

  • Wearing the right colors instantly enhances your appearance, making your skin look clearer, eyes brighter, and overall presence more polished.

  • First impressions are often visual—when you wear colors that suit you, people subconsciously perceive you as more confident, approachable, and competent.

  • Great for interviews, client meetings, networking, or even first dates.

💵 2. Save Time & Money When Shopping

  • Stop guessing what looks good—your personalized color palette helps you quickly spot what works and skip what doesn’t.

  • Reduces “impulse buys” and returns because you’re only buying items in shades that truly suit you.

  • Helps build a more cohesive wardrobe, meaning your clothes mix and match more easily, giving you more outfits with fewer pieces.

⏱️ 3. Streamline Your Morning Routine

  • When your closet is full of flattering colors, getting dressed is quicker and more stress-free.

  • You’ll feel more confident leaving the house knowing your outfit complements your natural features.

👗 4. Your Best Colors Are Unique to You

  • Color analysis is personalized based on skin undertone, eye color, and natural hair color.

  • Not all reds, blues, or greens are created equal—some versions of each color will flatter you more than others.

International Women's Day Brunch - Hudson Valley with Kaela Serino, Boards By Kae

In honor of International Women's Day, we hosted a brunch event on Saturday, March 16th, 2024, at The Amsterdam in Rhinebeck, NY, featuring Kaela Serino, the owner of Boards by Kae, which serves up charcuterie catering, grazing tables, and workshops throughout the Hudson Valley. She be talked about entrepreneurship and social media marketing.

This was an opportunity for women entrepreneurs and women in business to come together and meet new business owners, while discussing more about their businesses.

Key Learnings/Takeaways:

  • With entrepreneurship you mostly only hear about the end result of a fully accomplished business, but never about the in between or hardships/what it took to get there. It can be much more valuable and relatable to hear about the struggles.

  • We talked a lot about pricing models and knowing your value. It’s much easier to come in at “my range is $100 - $250, and can assess the price better once I have a full scope of the work”, then come in a bit lower. It shifts the mindset of what people are expecting in terms of on the higher end, and then can be pleasantly surprised if the price comes in lower. It’s girl math.

  • You really need to weigh the pros/cons when approached with no budget or free work. It can be met with a gut check. You can also approach it as paying for supplies/gas/time/hourly fee or at a discounted rate. The point is to know and stand in your value.

  • One idea to approach new business/collaborators is to reach out and offer a free consultation and frame it with a problem they have that you can fix with your business or service.

  • Brand your product early. Example of this is Kaela branding her boards with her branding/cheese picks.

  • Stories on Instagram can show more personality and should because people want to see who’s behind the brand. Don’t hide behind a logo. Your reels & posts should stay on brand.

  • No compliant rule, if you’re complaining you need to attach a resolution on the end of it.
