If you aren’t familiar with Cold Springs, NY, it’s typically on those Time Out NY guides marketed to the New York city folk as a day trip destination outside the city, a great getaway… And that's actually true. It’s an easy trip up by train out of Grand Central and it has beautiful mountain views overlooking the Hudson River. It’s best know for hiking and has a lively Main Street Downtown for shopping, eating, and antiquing. It’s a historic town (founded 1846) so queue the charm of a Hallmark Christmas movie.
Whether you are in the city our visiting from the surrounding areas like Westchester, Orange, or Duchess counties, I hope you’ll keep exploring and check out some of my favorite spots in Cold Springs. Here’s a great weekend guide on shopping, where to eat, hike, and some pretty cool experiences like candle making or a neighborhood low waste market. I should also mention if you’re a dog owner or dog petter this place is for you, I’ve never seen so many dogs before than in Cold Springs. Happy Exploring!
Transportation:
How to Get to Cold Springs, NY:
By TRAIN: From Grand Central in NYC, take the Hudson Line on Metro North and get off at Cold Spring (or Breakneck Ridge Station for hiking the Breakneck Trail on the weekend)
By CAR: Driving to Cold Spring: Cold Spring is about 1.5 hour drive from Manhattan.
Parking: Street Parking is Free, but VERY hard to come by, either get to town early (however most shops open at about 11am/12pm), or there is some municipal parking. Be sure to download the ParkMobile app ahead of time to pay for parking. It’s about $1.85 per hour.
Shopping:
DamnAgedVintage - A carefully curated vintage clothing boutique. Cold Springs is also filled with so many antique shops but DamnAgedVintage is the go-to for vintage clothes!
Pink Olive - Happy cute little gift shop. They have everything from cookbook, greeting cards, plushes, kids books, toys, stickers, and more They also have stores in NYC stores!
Wyld - A plant lady’s dream. Shop all things plants - Houseplants, pots, plant care tings, crystals, and oddities.
Supplies For Creatives Living - Supplies for Creative Living provides art and writing materials, handmade goods + workshops to support and illuminate the creative process.
Cold Springs General Store - Retail store carrying luxury home goods, books, and locally sourced provisions with a focus on handmade local Hudson Valley companies.
Food & Drink:
Hudson Hils Cafe - Great for brunch, Farm to table breakfast, lunch & baked goods
Angie’s Bake Shop - Cute cafe, great for pastries, soup, sandwiches, coffee/tea.
Cool Experiences:
Mundane - A custom scent experience. This shop seats an 8 custom candle + scent bar. Create your own signature scent with 40+ options or shop our pre-poured candles and diffusers available.
Understory Market - A neighborhood low waste market. Stock up on dry good, bulk refills for pantry and home. Absolutely love this concept!
Hiking:
Many city folks come into Cold Springs for the hiking. I don’t hike so I am honestly not the best person to ask about trails. I get winded going up a slightly steep hill. All Trails has a great list of top trails in the area.
